Today is Monday January 26 2026 and yesterday i rode my bicycle outside.
It was bitter cold.
It may have been the coldest ride i've ever done.
i wouldn't have done it except there was snow on the ground and riding in the snow sounded fun. Which it was.
The night before i wrote down all the gear i would need to survive.
- Warm socks
- Winter riding shoes
- Fleece bib tights
- Cycling jeans
- Base Layer
- Jersey
- Wool quarter zip
- Down jacked
- Wind proof balaclava
- Additional face shield thingy
- Down Mittens
i geared up and hit the road around 7:45 am.
My toes got cold and my face but it was manageable. Occasionally i had to lower the zipper on the down jacked a few inches because my torso would get hot. Pedaling in the snow can be hard work. But it was fun. We got maybe 5 inches of snow and the roads were totally covered but by Sunday morning everything had been plowed or driven over so there was always a decent path to follow. Still you had to keep your guard up, i did have to dab once.
i made it to Crows coffee at 51st and Brookside Blvd in about 55 minutes and i stopped for a coffee and burrito. i inhaled the burrito and then i headed back home.
i took the trolly trail for a few minutes on the way home, fresh powder, very hard going.
Upon returning home i thawed out my water bottle and drank it.
