Today is Thursday September 3 2026 and last night i did the Johnny's ride.
It was awesome, we had a big group, i felt great, i got a front flat towards the end, it didn't dampen my enthusiasm.
i felt maybe the best ever and was on my way to a likely finish with the front group when the flat occurred. It was rideable so i kept going while i called X to come pick me up.
Quick sidebar... X does not need surgery for her elbow. She'll be wearing a hinged brace basically 24/7 for the next 4-6 weeks and doing PT 2-3 times a week. In 3 months she should be back to 100%.
Now back to the Johnny's ride... It felt like we were hammering on the final third of the ride. A new guy named Denver joined about 30 minutes in and multiple times he went to the front and went fast. The force was strong with me last night and i anticipated each surge. i was in control. it was awesome. There was a specific moment where i was able to get my very hard breathing under control without letting up. That felt significant.
Upon arriving home i guzzled some recovery drinks and then took the dog for a walk at 8:30 pm, the temperature was 90! i think by the time this current heat wave is done we'll have had around 15 consecutive days of highs in the 90's. Pretty brutal for late August / early September.
